Is x-mas today what it should be? didn't it loose its meaning when it became a commercial event with everyone stressing out to buy gifts for others that the others don't need anyway? any ideas for simplifying it and getting back to what it really is about?
Hands off x-mas! it's fine as it is. I like to go out and do my usual routine.

Alexkaatschthinks: Get rid of it. As a religious festival it's inaccurately dated and attracts a social minority of believers and as anything else it's merely a dumb excuse to waste money and get drunk.
tommydthinks: One thing i hate to see is undeserving children getting spoilt by their parents. Children are only wanting more because adults are feeding their bad habits through excuses like Xmas. I think Xmas needs to be a balance of View B and A, however slightly more of B as it has got far too "give to receive" !
sandthinks: Do Alexkaatsch and Tommyd have children themselves? And who says you have to get drunk at Christmas? Or just because it's Christmas? Who is hindering you visiting with family? And who says that just because you are giving gifts, you have to spend a lot of money?
There are so few festivals in the West which are truly CELEBRATED, why do away with the few we still do celebrate?
I don't have a problem with Christmas. As a matter of fact, I enjoy it even though the preparations can get stressful. As for content (as well as everything else about it), it's up to me to "make" Christmas meaningful, ie to present the background and fill the forms. If I decide that Christmas is stupid anyway, then it will be.
JBonninthinks: Socially, I really don´t think there is a way to any claimed pure spirituality.
Individually, you are free to celebrate Christmas however you wish, or not even celebrate it.
For those who do have children, it is just impossible to deny them the joy of taking part in this festival in which all their colleagues will be getting their presents and family parties, unless you wish your children to become bitter.
